What documents do I need for my tax appointment? 

This is our most common question!   

 Being prepared makes the process smooth and fast.

Please bring the following:


  • Personal Information:
    Valid photo ID (Driver's License) for you and your spouse.

             Social Security cards (or ITIN letters) for yourself, your spouse,  

             and all dependents.

             Birthdates for all individuals on the return.(if you are a new client,)    

            PLEASE PROVIDE A BIRTH CERTIFICATE FOR EACH DEPENDENT.  

             Return: A copy of your previous year's federal and state tax returns 

                                 (especially important if you are a new client).  

                                                       

  • Income Documents:
    • W-2s (from employers).
    • 1099-NEC / 1099-MISC (for independent contractor work).
    • 1099-INT (bank interest), 1099-DIV (dividends), 1099-B (stock sales).
    • 1099-G (unemployment benefits, state refunds).
    • 1099-R (pensions, IRA/401(k) distributions).
    • SSA-1099 (Social Security benefitu are Itemizing using Schedule A  
  • Expense & Deduction Documents:
    • For Homeowners: Form 1098 (mortgage interest), real estate and property tax statements.
    • For Renters: [If your state has a renter's credit, e.g., "Form 1098-T for renter's credit"].
    • For Education: Form 1098-T (college tuition) and records of student loan interest (1098-E).
    • For Childcare: Childcare provider's name, address, and Tax ID number (EIN or SSN) and amount paid.
    • For Business Owners: A summary of your business income and itemized expenses (e.g., mileage, supplies, utilities).
    • For Itemizing: Records of charitable donations (cash and non-cash), and significant medical or dental expenses.


  • Bank Information: Your bank account and routing number for direct deposit of your refund (or direct debit of payment).
  • Health Insurance: Form 1095-A (if you purchased insurance through the Marketplace/Healthcare.gov). birth certificate for each dependent.

if it has been more than 21 days since you filed your tax return, here are the most effective ways to check the status or speak with an IRS representative:

Online Status Check (Recommended First Step)

The fastest way to check the status of a filed return is by using the official IRS online tools:

  • Where's My Refund? Tool: Use this for an individual income tax return ($Form 1040$). It provides the status in three phases: Return Received, Refund Approved, and Refund Sent.
    • Availability: Accessible on the IRS.gov website or the IRS2Go mobile app.
    • Information Needed: Your Social Security Number (or ITIN), your filing status, and the exact whole dollar amount of the expected refund.

Important Note: IRS phone assistors have access to the same information provided by the "Where's My Refund?" tool. Calling will not expedite your refund but is necessary if you have a complex situation or if the online tool specifically prompts you to contact them.
